Area Rug Cleaning in Stratford, ON
Wool, synthetic and older rugs cleaned with care, starting with a check of the fibre and the dyes so nothing runs, shrinks or fades.

Wool, Synthetic and Heirloom Rugs Cleaned With Care
An area rug catches everything: the boots that come in the front door, the crumbs under the dining table, the dog who sleeps in front of the fire. Because rugs sit on hard floors, grit works down into the base and grinds away at the fibres from underneath. A rug can look only slightly dull on top while holding a surprising amount of sand.
Rugs also vary far more than wall-to-wall carpet. A machine-made polypropylene runner can take a good hot wash. A wool rug needs cooler water and a gentler solution. Hand-dyed rugs can bleed. So every rug gets checked before it gets wet. Send the form or call +1 226-540-1084, and tell us roughly how big your rug is and what it's made of if you know.
When a Rug Needs a Proper Wash
- Grit on the floor underneath. Lift a corner: if there's sand on the floor, the rug is full of it.
- The colours look muddy. A film of soil dulls the pattern.
- It smells when the heat's on. Odours come out when a room warms up.
- The fringe has gone grey. Fringes soak up dirt from every mop and broom.
- Spills or pet accidents. Better treated soon than left to set.

In Your Home or Taken Away?
Most machine-made rugs, synthetic rugs and many wool rugs can be cleaned well right in your home, laid on a protective sheet or a clear patch of floor. That's how we handle the majority of rugs.
Some rugs need more than an in-home clean: very large rugs heavy with soil, hand-knotted antiques, silk or viscose rugs, or rugs with heavy pet contamination that needs a full soak. For those, ask when you book. We'll tell you honestly whether we can do a good job on site, or whether the rug is better off with a specialist rug washing service.
Fringes and colour bleed. Fringes are usually cotton and stain easily, so we clean them gently by hand. If a rug's dyes show any sign of running during the test, we stop and talk to you before going further.

Area Rug Questions
Can you clean a wool rug safely?
Yes. Wool cleans beautifully when it's handled right: cooler water, a wool-safe solution, no harsh scrubbing, and a thorough rinse. We test the dyes first.
Will the colours run?
That's what the pre-test is for. Most rugs are colourfast. If yours isn't, we'll talk to you about a dry or very low-moisture approach, or point you to a specialist.
Can you clean the rug pad too?
We can vacuum and freshen most pads. A pad that's soaked with pet urine usually needs replacing; cleaning won't fully fix it.
